All Covers

In the Microscopy Facility the following equipment as well as ancillary equipment is available for use:

Nikon PCM 2000 laser scanning confocal microscope

Live cell imaging system for time-lapse imaging

Dynamic Intensity Analysis system for calcium imaging

JEOL 1200EX Transmission Electron Microscope

The Microscopy facility has a full-time facility manager who maintains the equipment, instructs users in the preparative techniques and proper use of the equipment.

Nikon PCM 2000 laser scanning confocal microscope

This microscope is equipped with 3 lasers (Argon, Green Helium-Neon, and Red Helium-Neon) and 3 PMTs on Nikon E800 upright microscope. 2 PMTs are for fluorescence and 1 is for brightfield. The lenses available for use include a 4x, 10x, 20x, 40x oil, 40x water, 60x oil, 60x water and 100x oil.

Live cell imaging system for time-lapse imaging

This system is based on an Olympus BX50WI fixed stage microscope equipped with fluorescence and DIC optics. The lenses are waterimmersion lenses (10x, 20x, 40x, 60x). The stage has an ASI computer controlled x,y stage as well as a computer-controlled Ludl z-step motor. A Harvard apparatus temperature controller for maintaining 0.1 degree temperature control. The camera is a Photometrics Quantix cooled CCD camera with Uniblitz shutters on both the fluorescence and DIC light sources. The system control and analysis software is Compix made by C*imaging.

Dynamic Intensity Analysis system for calcium imaging

This system is based on an Olympus BX50WI fixed stage microscope equipped with fluorescence and DIC optics. The lenses are waterimmersion lenses (10x, 20x, 40x, 60x). The camera is a Hamamatsu Orca camera with a Uniblitz shutter on DIC light sources. The fluorescence light source has a high speed shutter and filter wheel. The focus in z is controlled by a Ludl z-step motor. The system control and analysis software is Compix made by C*imaging.

JEOL 1200EX Transmission Electron Microscope

This Electron Microscope is equipped with a Gatan Bioscan digital camera.
