OUTREACH

We organize lectures for schools and community centers to inform about kissing bugs and the health risks associated with them. If interested, contact us. Availability is limited.

Past activities:

Lectures (two) about allergies, disease and parasites in Tucson High School and Mountain View High School. These classes consisted of a lecture, an ad-hoc designed game in which the students have to bring together the concepts they learn, and distribution of an informative flyer.

Talk at the symposium Kissing bugs and Chagas Disease. Talk title: Kissing bug biology and control. Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases Conference, Phoenix, Arizona (organized by the Arizona Department of Health Services).

Lectures (two) in the course “Medical and Veterinary Entomology” at the University of Arizona, about kissing bugs and Chagas’ Disease.

Lecture about kissing bugs and Chagas’ Disease in the course “Biology Concepts” (Biology 100, Prof. Dr. JodyLee Estrada Duek), Pima Community College.

Lecture about kissing bugs and Chagas’ Disease for a group of elementary school teachers from Central America and the Caribbean who were in the USA as part of the CASS Project (College of Education, Language, Reading and Culture, University of Arizona) to improve their scientific education.

Presentation in the series “Science Café” organized by the Chemical Association of Southern Arizona. This meeting was attended by the general public and we spoke about kissing bugs, how to avoid contact and allergies, etc., and addressed public concerns.
